The AdsML Consortium, an international group of organizations serving the print, electronic and digital publishing industries, moved one step closer to approving the framework of AdsML 1.0. This new, open standard will govern the digital exchange of information between parties involved in advertising workflow, from concept to publication to billing.
The group plans to release AdsML 1.0, as standard based on Extensible Markup Language, in October 2003.
Consortium members met to discuss the framework June 15 during NAA’s NEXPO/SuperConference 2003. A special workshop June 16 focused on components of the standard’s framework and outlined the ways AdsML builds on existing standards.
“AdsML is an exciting new technology that will help North American newspapers and their advertising customers do business in a more efficient and cost-effective manner”, says John Iobst, a member of the consortium and a vice-president with NAA/Ifra Technical Solutions LLC in Vienna, VA.
AdsML 1.0 builds on the capabilities of AdConnexion, which is used for transaction data for display ads in Europe; CREST, a U.S. standard for classified ads; and SpaceXML, a general standard for media advertising. Consortium members hope to have the AdsML 1.0 specification adopted internationally.
