A new version of The AdsML Framework has just been released by the AdsML Consortium. It is available at www.adsml.org. AdsML members and interested parties are encouraged to download the release and begin using it.
Features
AdsML Framework 3.5, Release 3 is a maintenance upgrade to the AdsML Framework. Changes in Release 3 include:
- Improvements to the Usage documentation for AdsML Bookings and AdsML Media Pack.
- New “Section” and “Publisher Country” elements in AdsML Ad Ticket.
- Updated ISO Country Code values in the AdsML Controlled Vocabularies.
Implementers who already have Release 2 but wish to benefit from these changes can download just the new materials.
This is the second fully Approved release of Framework 3.5; an earlier approved version was made available in June 2010. Release 3 is fully compatible with the previous release and builds on its capabilities.
The next release of the AdsML Framework will be a fully backwards-compatible maintenance release. Work us now underway and the update is expected to be made public in late May, 2011.
Highlights include:
- A new “Section” field is being added to the positioning metadata in the Ad Ticket format.
- Several new usage guidelines are being added to the Media Pack and Bookings specifications in order to address questions that have been raised by implementers. (The schemas of these two standards will not change.)
The AdsML website will also be modified so that users can download just the changed components of the Framework, rather than having to download the entire package.
The AdsML Annual General Meeting was held March 14 2011 at the WAN-IFRA offices in Darmstadt, Germany.

The work will mainly be performed during the April/May period aiming for a release in the end of June.
The main office holders for 2011 are Harald Löffler (Chair, WAN-IFRA) and Rob Fogwill (Vice-Chair, AdFast).
Following last year’s major release of approved specifications of the AdsML Framework, the AdsML Technical Working Group is now planning for a smaller maintenance release . And as always, if you are involved in or are aware of an AdsML implementation, we would love to hear about it. Please drop us a line and a member of the TWG will follow up with you.

A new Proposed Specification of the Usage Rules & Guidelines for AdsML Media Pack 1.0 has been released for public review and comment. It is available here: AdsML Media Pack Usage Rules & Guidelines (PDF).
AdsML Media Pack is part of AdsML Framework 3.5, which was first released in June 2009. The specification provides a global standard for the exchange of advertising media packs, including rate cards and technical specifications for advertising offers. It relies on earlier experience and practices that have been embraced and extended in order to support current advertising business requirements. In addition, AdsML Media Pack has been designed with extensibility as an important objective in order to be able to grow with the business and support various business models and future requirements.
The new Media Pack usage documentation represents a significant upgrade to the usage guidelines that were contained in Release 1.
The next release of the AdsML Framework, which is scheduled to become available later this month, enhances the multi-currency support in Bookings messages by providing an optional Exchange Rate element at each location where a Currency can be specified. It will therefore be possible to indicate the exchange rate that was used to arrive at each price.
These new features are entirely optional and backwards compatible.
